| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️ Feldschlosschen beers and mainstream bottles – with some standouts, with a well stocked back bar for alternatives. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A lavish spread of kitsch from floor to ceiling, the extravagance hinted at outside. Enter the one room bar to find yourself immersed in a cornucopia of taxidermy, mannequin limbs, flags, pinatas, mirrors, candelabras, and chandeliers. It lived a former life as an antique shop. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Due to the interior there is always something to enjoy even during quieter times, but the fact is it takes off truly later on with plenty of cross chat and fun. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️ Snacks, music, |
| Value For Money | ❤️ Possibly among the more expensive bars in Basel centre for what is for sale, which is saying something. |
| Description | No less than a cult venue at this point, a former antique shop owned Hansjörg Bürgin started in the1970s although the Schluggstube became a bar within 15 years. It has passed down within the family and offers a permanent beacon of nightlife in city centre that is not exactly studded with great bars. The signage hints at the extravagance inside, but it is only when entering that you find out just how extravagant. Immersed in a cornucopia of taxidermy, mannequin limbs, flags, pinatas, mirrors, candelabras, and chandeliers plastered from wall to ceiling. Beers are only perfunctory here but there are plenty of reasonably alternatives, so long as you have the money – it is not a cheap place to go. However, when the pace increases in the evening there is no doubt it is one of the best bars in Europe. (Added March 2024) |
