Description:
Ostrava’s layout makes it one of the more odd experience to navigate, and perhaps the oddest is the entire break the city takes between the districts of Svinov and Marianske Hory. The sprawl gives way to parks and wetland, and somewhere in that green space is almost a little hamlet where this is pub is based.

It may appear fairly inaccessible but a regular bus line passes and links up to the main east to west artery in the city.

As you arrive, say hi to the guard dogs of the building opposite the pub who greet everyone who alights the bus, then walk around to find an old pub sign and a raised terrace.

The pub is pirate/seafaring themed with a Hamburg flag pinned to the wall. Slightly unexpected given Ostrava is about the furthest away from the sea of any city in Europe, but it’s well done nonetheless.

A genteel, casual hangout awaits, somewhere that feels like a brief departure from the city too, an island village in a conurbation that is, let’s face it, a mess.

Simple but fresh drinks, a telly, and occasional bursts of music on the terrace await, while it looks like it’ll be really cosy in winter too. Service is also friendly with no-one batting an eyelid about an unfamiliar visitor.

Definitely one to keep in mind if you’re looking to join up Svinov with Ostrava-Jih or just fancy getting out of the city for a bit without actually leaving it.
