Venue Type:  Neighbourhood Pub / Traditional / Theme Pub

EBG Rating: 7.9/10

Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Svijany, Pilsner Urquell the standout options which is above average for Poland and a well stocked back bar.

Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Impressively old-school woodstrip boozer interior fitted with memorabilia, not least of all for the rock band Dzem and its martyred lead singer Rysiek Riedel. They’re a big deal in central Europe. A long building with garden out front, traditional gloomy interior.

Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Naturally characterful due to the interior, the place works whether quiet or busy. The garden makes it versatile enough and the neighbourhood location reduces the custom to locals plus occasional rock fans on a pilgrimage.

Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Snacks, outdoor seating, TV

Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good value overall.

Description:
After wandering from the train station through the centre of Tychy and back, you could be forgiven for looking at the population size and going “Huh.”

Extensive suburbs are built around a small and very unimpressive centre that wouldn’t really raise an eyelid as a small town. It’s not unpleasant but it is lacking sights.

The better pubs are spread out a little too, hardly helping join on a pub crawl. However, Pod Jesionami near the train station provides justification to stop off and have a short wander around and a beer or two here.

A backstreet neighbourhood pub in a committedly traditional style. Woodstrip Krcma type approach decorated with trophies and memorabilia for the rock band Dzem and its martyred lead singer Rysiek Riedel. They’re a big deal in central Europe.

It all adds character and identity to this place, while the drinks section ain’t too shabby either.

Poland often wisely looks to Czechia for help when it comes to lagers and Svijany + Pilsner Urquell come to the rescue here.

There’s a nice garden and you really are in a pleasant lo-rise residential neighbourhood making it a relaxed place to hang out.

Nothing less than a cult pub for rock fans, and in a pretty obscure location, we wish it well as it stands out in a sea of mediocrity.
