Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
4/5 on tap are supplemented by rotating guests, a nice balance which allows for repeat visits. The standard is OK, typical for an outfit of this sort. Don’t look past rum infusions if you’re at all interest in that sort of thing.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️
A compact one-room bar with bar area to the left and fish tank positioned in the centre between the back bar. Colourful, casual interior with hand-written signage. Chunky, second-hand communal furnishings with some cushioning.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
The position in Perrache very much makes it feel like a casual neighbourhood hangout rather than a corporate city centre place like Ninkasi, the city’s big money chain, and that’s all for the better.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
TV, board games, occasional events, food, snacks
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Decent value considering Happy Hour deals.
Description:
Lyon’s station Perrache is one of those that takes several visits in order to navigate properly. A tangle of poorly signposted passages and confusing multi-levels mean if you’re not careful you can end up spat out pointing the wrong way, or traipsing around the bus terminal trying to find the way out. It is however the likeliest stop for you, being the terminal of the pink Metro line, allowing you to hop on a tram to access the Confluence area of the Rhone/Saone rivers, or the boulevard Charlemagne with its row of eateries and bars.
Platypus is a small brewery with a pleasingly compact, casual pub. The setup is purposefully DIY feeling, fairly unpretentious with it, going for a drop-in bar for socialising with friends rather than any elevated posing.
Board games, happy hour, the usual assortment of French snacks (planches of cheese and meat for example) and a TV make up the familiar ensemble you find in bars such as this.
Their own beers – 4/5 on tap are supplemented by rotating guests, a nice balance which allows for repeat visits. The standard is OK, typical for an outfit of this sort. Prices are almost pointedly fair with very affordable Happy Hour deals.
