Description:
An extremely popular pub set just off one of Brno’s main drags.

Their format makes a virtue of the concept of beer snacks/food with beer where Czech culture almost seems to lean towards Spanish tapas/pintxos. Here you can grab chlebíčky (open-faced small sandwiches) or other items on cocktail sticks from the trays by the bar as you order.

As you munch on some roast beef, horseradish and fresh bread (among other options), washing it down with tasty beer from Beskydsky, you can understand the appeal.

The name means “At the Ball” and they haven’t been afraid to make that literal, manifested above the bar in the shape of basketballs, footballs, rugby balls et al.

Along with U Daana (before it closed in 2022), the pub serves sports fans who stop by for a beer before live hockey or football up the road. When there’s nothing on nearby, the TV at the bar plugs the gap.

This isn’t to say it’s a sports pub though, and they’ve succeeded in making a very lively, almost hyper social format with more informality than most Czech pubs. The coming and going of plates, the casual nature of the bar room. There’s a tempo to it that elevates it despite the plain surroundings.
