| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️ Ostravar, PU, Mustang, and the most standard back bar of central European alternatives. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A large beer hall with a high ceiling and globe lighting. Yes, this is no Medieval hangout. Instead, there are some funky decorations such as the pillars and wall paintings that catch the eye and add a retro disco element which is much unexpected, but not uncomplimentary either |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ The location and space, including TVs, ensures there is a decent range of customers from the stalwart grizzled men to younger couples. There is an unusually, a half-accidental appealing retro quality which they only appear to have half realised or begun to exploit. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Food, snacks, TV, pool table, newspapers |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Fair value in accordance with the quality of food and drink. |
| Description | “The Piper” has been an institution in Poruba for over 50 years. Part of a new build socialist projects expanding Ostrava into a sprawling conurbation, there is an architectural integrity to Poruba, which may not be to everyone’s tastes, but which splendidly places you back in time to the optimism of its creation. Every new build area needs somewhere that anchors you to your roots, and Pivnice U Dudáka provides that. You’ll spot the piper emblem on its logo, underneath a large city building. Inside there’s a large beer hall with a high ceiling and globe lighting. Yes, this is no Medieval hangout. Instead, there are some funky decorations such as the pillars and wall paintings that catch the eye and add a retro disco element which is much unexpected, but not uncomplimentary either. Cementing the retro nature, the pubs beer is Ostravar, a not all that great creation which nevertheless has the city’s name attached. It works in a setting such as this. The location and space, including TVs, ensures there is a decent range of customers from the stalwart grizzled men to younger couples. There is a kitchen and although not right at the cheaper end, there are some occasional daily deals to be found. For a slice of social history, a peculiar funky, fashionable quality that by rights it shouldn’t inhabit, and fully local life separated from any tourism, this is an institution of Poruba, one worth sampling.
