Description:
Thanks heavens for the handful of Seville bars that are nether food-focused nor corporate lounge bars, instead staying open for night owls seeking something a little more atmospheric, clandestine, and distinctive.
Pecata Mundi, “Sins of the World”, is already a heavily suggestive sign things aren’t entirely normal in here.
Set down a narrow back alley in the heart of the old town, you can easily pass the entrance without clocking it, so approach slowly.
Inside, there’s a typical narrow dive bar room with lounge to the left and leafy courtyard atrium area which is popular in warmer months (of which there are many here).
As well as low lighting and an array of ancient antique furnishings, peculiar pinata style figures are fastened to the walls and ceilings giving it the macabre vibe they were seeking. Because it’s Seville, yes, you’ll find more painted ceramics on show.
Formerly a cocktail joint, these days you’ll be lucky to get basic mixers from a more stripped down back-bar, along with simple but effective enough beers, wines, sherries etc.
It’s a highly distinctive option in a city centre crying out for one or two more like it.
