Choice/
Quality of Drinks
⭐⭐⭐⭐
A decent beer selection on tap a step above the normal Antwerp selection without being dramatic. Decent range of bottles and competent back bar.
Style/
Décor
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Unprepossessing exterior with a terrace leads to a cute little bar with limited seating dominated by an almost church like panel of gothic arches above an old wooden bar, with a steam heater splitting the bench seats. Limited additional room upstairs. Vatje means ‘little barrel’, you can certainly see why.
Atmosphere/
Character
⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of Antwerp’s core central pubs with a constantly stream of visitors. Not totally taken up with tourists but largely serving out-of-towners. The interior is cosy and characterful, promoting social interaction, all for the better.
Amenities/
Events
⭐⭐⭐
Outdoor seating, basic food & snacks
Value For Money
⭐⭐
A little more expensive than average.
Description
One of the central Antwerp tour pubs, mere minutes away from half a dozen others, with transient custom to match. The interior is quirky and characterful though with its tiny bar, church window like panels, steam heater and rickety mezzanine level. It’s tiny, cosy and promotes social interaction while serving very good Belgian beer. Sounds good to us, and it is.
