Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️
A fairly mainstream selection across the board, with a few craft beer bottles and competent back bar.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Old town street-side entrance to a two-floor bar with heavy decorating and low-key disco lighting.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Eclectic, mildly arty, yet at times mainstream and central feeling too, an odd sometimes unresolved feeling. Plenty to look at and enjoy nevertheless.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, musical instruments, books.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good value for the central area.
Description:
With its pub cats, train sets, old books, local art, and assorted bric-a-brac, this old town bar feels like a misfit in central Bucharest’s trashy old town area more focused on strip-joints, ex-pat sports bars and look-at-me twee bistros.
While not exactly an outsider bar (nothing could be in such a location), there is a kind of pugnacity to their setup that absorbs and occasionally repels the worst aspects of the city centre.
Interesting music and two floors of casual off-beat alternative lounging can be enjoyed.
It isn’t perfect and some tweaks could be made to furnishings and some iffier choices (lighting being one), likewise extending the beer selection, but there’s a strong feeling of authenticity which prevails.
Given the location it ought to be celebrated.
