Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️
1 or 2 basic cask ales with a perfunctory lager + cider selection. Not its strong point.

Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Traditional backstreet boozer in a stone cottage. Small with a snug bar room and wider lounge to the rear, pool room to the left with further seating. In CAMRA’s National Inventory of Historic Interiors, though what is there is curious and low-key rather than spectacular.

Fully local with cast of regulars, banter flowing back and forth but a friendly welcome too.

Very good value for the cask ales.
DescriptionOut by Pellon on the edge of town, it’s a simple small backstreet boozer with its cast of regulars and banter, but friendly. 3 cask pumps, 1 in regular use, 2 and 3 occasionally used. Remember it’s CASH ONLY here!

We enjoyed the atmosphere and environment which was quite cosy.

A snug bar room to the right of the entrance, old fashioned pool room to the left, and lounge to the rear with TV. Generally tasteful design with sympathetic pubby decorations and exposed brick, communal furnishings.

A Heritage listing says as follows:

This is a classic end-of-terrace local, a former beerhouse, which was remodelled by Webster’s brewery in 1935 (architects, Jackson & Fox). Their revamp included features, like the stand-up lobby, that were being designed into their much larger new pubs of the time – and the New Street preserves the planning and many of the fittings from the inter-war scheme. Original fittings include good oak-panelled doors and seating with Art Deco stepped armrests. (The fireplaces and lounge counter are later). CAMRA sought statutory listing in 2009, but without success.

If you like a Halifax pub along similar lines to the The Big Six it’ll worth the trip out from the centre. (Added September 2023)
