Basic options – lager and central European liqueurs, perfunctory alternatives. But they also have Poutnik lager from Pehlrimov on tap, and that’s a great beer, so…

Surviving unspoilt boozer with cream walls, ramshackle seating, personalised interior and – rather unusually – a giant dragon fixed to the ceiling.

While this is a throwback, there is a sense of relevance and fixture to the place. You can feel the years but also the day-to-day rhythms. It isn’t exclusively a hold out for old men either, and you’ll find a reasonably mixed crowd, some enjoying it for the cheap prices and relaxed atmosphere. Quite friendly and tolerant to a clear newcomer. A truly unpretentious, unvarnished hangout to relax in, which some people with love, others will hate.

DescriptionThose seeking a legitimate old Brno pub near the centre – look no further! This is a throwback Starobrno fourth-grade pub with some distinctive touches, none more so than the impressive dragon attached to ceiling. The interior is a pub of old, but the atmosphere has not receded into irrelevance – the day to day rhythms, cast of regulars and a few younger groups are testament to a pub that has a wider appeal than simply to old fogeys. There is also Poutnik – an excellent lager on tap for a great price. With books, board games and a TV there is plenty to do, and with a tolerant, non-cliquey atmosphere, plenty of reason to make a first visit even if it may be initially a little intimidating. A truly unpretentious, unvarnished hangout to relax in, which some people with love, others will hate.
