Description:
Named ‘Poison Hut’ after one of Czechia’s most famous taverns, the long-gone but notoriously shabby Prague tavern of ill-repute.
This roadside pub is decorated in biker’s pub ephemera with Svijany’s, let’s just say Racy calendars plastered in its rickety old interior. It’s a character place but a fully fledged boozer and drinking den that is going to wildly split opinion depending on your tastes.
Svijany is a nice enough find and the menu suggests they occasionally have the specials on too. There’s a good menu which is brief but has occasional specials, and generally good write-ups. In summer most of the action happens out front but the hut sees plenty of use November-March.
Something about the outhouse toilet feels appropriate for such a place.
The tapster/server is a very efficient and professional person. Something about her presence alone lends it a legitimacy above its otherwise bordering on sordid nature.
The very casual, worn-in nature will appeal to anyone who has had enough of the 21st century trend of whitewashing Czech pubs into utter neutrality and soullessness.
A bus regularly passes by to take you back from the fringes of Ostrava’s outskirts to whatever they deem as being civilisation.
