DescriptionAccording to the owner, the idea of Madeira Rum House came from his mentor Roberto Andrade, who, due to his life experience, decided to create a place where anyone can taste the delicious agricole rum, while also sharing the history of the production on the Island and in Portugal. This informs the experience here which blends knowledge with hospitality. There is a shop selling rums and cigars, but it operates entirely in balance with the bar. Rum, and Madeira’s famous drink Poncha are at the forefront of the drinks offerings, but they make cocktails and have a tap for the generic lager too. A fairly characterful interior of wooden cabinets, upturned barrels and classical, charmingly worn design is decent, but the terrace is where you’ll find people most days of the year, with the natural sounds of a busy street of restaurants, live music and a personal touch from the staff. Among the better places to end up in Funchal. (added 2023)
