| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A compact cocktail menu reflects the compact size of the bar, this is about quality over quantity, with the menu revolving around a modest list of ingredients. Other options are available including tapped beer. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A one-off design by the eponymous Loos, modernist, ahead of its time. Pictures don’t do justice to how small the place is, with only a few bench seats opposite the bar and stools at the bar itself. Inside attractive bronze panels above the entrance catch the eye, as do elegant gilt edged underlit tables. The bar itself has a few quirky features too. Space in the room is lost due to the design of the toilet access. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A struggle to maintain its exclusive feel while being a central institution on the tourist trail, that dynamic feeds into the interior rhythm and atmosphere, but overall the experience is a very positive one. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️ Complimentary water, limited snacks, outdoor seating. |
| Value For Money | ❤️ Undeniably city centre high-end cocktail prices. If you have a limited budget though it is still worth a one-off visit. |
| Description | Famous, iconic Vienna bar from 1908 with design inspired by the modernist movements in America, yet its American flag signage out front may inversely be the most tacky element of it. Inside, you’ll find a well preserved little cocktail bar, compact with limited seating around benches, far smaller than any images will imply. They maintain order and a sense of exclusivity by maintaining some ground rules. No shorts, sandals etc and no photography. This seems to be effective in weeding out selfish moaners, from what I can see on reviews. The cocktails are curated from a limited menu – deliberately limited – there is simply not space to stock much more than they have, but created carefully and to a high standard, which is a relief given the price! A special one-off experience for a visitor, but it would be an odd place to be a regular in (Added April 2023) |
