Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Changing guest ales from smaller independent brewers and occasionally some reasonably welcome keg options too. A well-stocked back bar for alternatives. Sells its own label whisky distilled by Inverary.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Traditional exterior marked ‘John Leslie’. A heritage interior dating from 1899 listed as being of national historic importance, split in two with snob-screens and hatches with order numbers on them. The bar has an alcove with banquettes while the lounge has three areas, a small snug by the door, an area around the fireplace and a corner with upholster seating.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A mixed crowd of locals and nearby students with a wider range of class present than you’d see in the city centre so much. Friendly and informal, with a knockabout feel despite the grandeur of the interior.

Board games, books, TV, snacks, fireplace, pub quiz
Value For Money❤️❤️❤️
Reasonably priced overall.
DescriptionJohn Leslie was the second licensee, from 1902 to 1924 and has become the pubs brand name. Far enough outside the hustle and tourism of the city centre to retain a local crowd, also pleasing to see a wider range of clientele from up and down the class divides which accents the atmosphere in here – lively, fun but with places to lounge too.

A large venue, split at the entrance between bar and lounge. Heritage features including a bar clock, snob screens and hatches where you would previously collect your order at the bar – a sign of the vast numbers of people who used to frequent these places.

With their own label whisky available and snug rooms to enjoy, this is a pub with a few strings to its bow and well worth checking out.
