Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️
Quirky selection rather than comprehensive. Paulaner Zwickl, yes, Picon, yes, but lacking in some areas too.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
On a square, the frontage of l’Echanson is beautiful with ornate wrought iron balconies, art nouveau detail and a narrow frontage that draws the eye towards all that detail. As you’re stood in the square, triangular with a fountain as a centrepiece, it really feels like the place to be. We haven’t even talked about the bar inside, yet! There’s a rustic interior with exposed beams, yellow/brown walls and a mezzanine overlooking the bar itself. It’s relatively understated with minimal retro style decoration, and a few tables furnishing a bench opposite the bar.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A sense of significance due to dominating a square and being almost always busy. Friendly service and a fixture on the social scene. Terrace atmosphere outside, characterful, if small, inside.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️
Snacks, outdoor seating
Value For Money❤️❤️
A little higher than average for what’s on offer.
DescriptionOn a square there is often a bar/restaurant that ‘owns’ the square, a focal point of social life, and this is it on Place de la Trinité, an area between Carmes and Esquirol metro stations which has become the place to go in Toulouse in the evening. The frontage of l’Echanson is beautiful with ornate wrought iron balconies, art nouveau detail and a narrow frontage that draws the eye towards all that detail. Due to the limited space, 90% of people are outside, but it does make it easier to get a seat. Drinks offering are quirky rather than replete, but there is enough to explore to keep one occupied. Service is busy, but friendly and it deserves a higher rating than currently received online. (Added June 2024)
