Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good selection of beers including from local breweries, with a strong range of liqueurs and competent back bar. Being Burgundy, wines are available.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Three rooms with exposed brick vaults, long bar with wood panelling and lamp lighting, a main beer hall in the centre and games room adjacent. Surprisingly large.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can be lively and noisy on student nights, but has a younger crowd later on in particular anyway. With a games room and big screen this is a place to socialise and have fun, but manages to do this a lot of the time without being trashy.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, games, events.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Some decent deals, otherwise typical of the city.
Description:
From its position on the street, the size of Le Cellier, a windowless basement type pub is obscured, but when you arrive, you’ll find three rooms with exposed brick vaults, including a long bar with wood panelling and lamp lighting, a main beer hall in the centre and games room adjacent.
It’s a late bar that doesn’t get going until the evening time, which almost seems to be a waste considering the versatile space they’re operating in, but nevertheless colours what to expect.
The refined sweeping room and bench seating is a typically continental take on a pub. But this is because it previously operated as an Irish bar until a change around 2017.
Remnants of that can still be seen, from its interior to the cheap student nights on Thursdays (be warned) but these days they go further, with an offering of local and regional beers.
Overall it’s a space that has taken on a second life well and perhaps would benefit from a wider audience too.
