Description:
Established in 2014 and operated as a co-operative, Bieristan is one of Lyon’s finest examples of ordinary people coming together to build the bar they want in their own neighbourhood. Found at Grotte-Ciel, one of the districts of the larger suburb of Villeurbanne, you’ll find a sizeable open plan bar in what looks to have been a previous warehouse, garage or packaging centre.

This is decorated in a DIY style, befitting its co-operative, self-sustaining nature. This approach fountains across the business to its involvement in cultural projects and assistance to vulnerable groups, to local produce from independent producers used in its cooking. The beers – 15 taps – largely derive from local small independent producers using exclusively organic-labelled ingredients. The choices are cast wider around the region too. Ever changing, you can be sure of a good range to choose from.

While it may look detached from Lyon centre, reaching here could barely be any easier – catch the pink line a few stops for around 10-15 minutes and you’ll find this place a short walk away.

A distinctive indie, going on hipster vibe, you can find people playing board games, busy on their laptops, here for a coffee or in the summer enjoying the garden terrace.

Among Lyon’s superior options, it shouldn’t be passed over just on account of being a few Metro stops away.
