| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Far superior to the average corner café. Local craft beers as well as a cheapo lager are the main event but there are the typical French backbar offerings too. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A corner café on a square, fitted with a colourful pastel Art Deco bar and sympathetic furnishings, with movie posters on the wall and some recovered antiques on the shelves. The bar itself and the shelf adjacent are eye-catching, immediately elevating this beyond the norm. A small backroom with faux-leather banquette is another unexpected feature. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ The effort in the decoration makes this a winner from the outset, but genuine local life, rather than simply the domain of the in-crowd makes this a more intriguing venue as a result. Everyone from your old granny, to young lovers, to excitable groups, to station wastrels and everyone in between pop by during the course of the day. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Snacks, live music, occasional events, Happy Hour, books, limited outdoor seating |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️ Considering the location and wares, reasonably priced. |
| Description | One of the nicer surprises on our journey, this venue was very much inked as a long shot when we researched the city, but what a delight to find such a distinctive bar with good beers, fair prices and a neighbourhood life that means it virtually owns the square it is situated on. Close to the train station, the annoyingly anonymous sounding ‘Le Bar’ is anything but when you arrive. With a 1950s influence, this corner café is fitted with a colourful pastel Art Deco bar and sympathetic furnishings, with movie posters on the wall and some recovered antiques on the shelves. The bar itself and the shelf adjacent are eye-catching, immediately elevating this beyond the norm. Local beers as well as a cheapo lager are the main event but there are the typical French backbar offerings too. The crowd around here is different from Place de la Trinite or Les Chalet, being close to the train station, giving it a genuinely broad, democratic audience rather than just being the home of the see-and-be-seen crowd. Interested yet? Well, you ought to be. (Added June 2024) |
