Low-key small drop in bar with wood strip central bar as you enter, wooden stools and generic lighting. Old office panels in the ceiling give it an ad-hoc feel too. Simple seating opposite with shelves and fridges of beers to the sides. Large TV in the corner. Patio furniture out front in spring through to autumn.

Friendly, low-key and welcoming with a sleepy afternoon social scene. Limited opening hours inevitably hamper any prospect of it becoming overly lively.

Overall fair value considering the specialist offerings, at least in line with what’s available around the city.

Description:
Few venues in Riga have as wide a beer selection as Lauvas. Somewhat cheating given it’s also a bottle shop, but the range is certainly broader than Alus Celle, the long standing classic. And you know what? As a bar, this works pretty well too.

The bar is at the centre of the room as you enter, with a limited spread of seating opposite by the window. A TV in the corner adds to the pubby feel and locals use it to hang out at, with stools to perch at the bar too.

Service is friendly and it feels far more welcoming than some of the nearby competition as a result.

As a small venue there’s not too much more to say. Prices are OK and in line with their offerings, and if you’re searching for specialist beer and happy to include bottles and cans you’ll find it difficult to do much better than here.
