Venue Type: Brewery Taproom / Modern / Courtyard
Year of Inscription: 2026
EBG Rating: 7.6/10
Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
16 taps mainly hosting their own creations. A spectrum of styles with some genuinely novel ideas with plenty to explore. Competent if compact alternatives.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️
Modern, but well-lit taproom with nods to Latvian’s pagan past in the tree trunk theme. The distressed greige walls are uninspired and an absolute no-no, however.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pleasant and convivial in the taproom but it takes off in summer as activity out in the courtyard complex blooms.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, takeaway, merchandise, outdoor seating, occasional events.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Considering the popularity, not extortionate.
Description:
Do not confuse Labietis stand in the market with being their bar. This is their bar. Not exactly a hidden gem, locals have been beating a path up Valdemara iela for well over a decade to Labietis, who made a splash in the early days of the craft brewing scene for some creative beers that were inspired by local herbs and berries. Spin on to the present and you’ll find a mixed international crowd at their high-spec taproom based in a converted ex-industrial area host to a range of different businesses, not just bars, clubs and restaurants.
In summer the complex comes into its own with outdoor seating and lighting extending the atmosphere into the open, but winter still hits hard in the Baltics and so it was important the taproom was a nice place to be too, and it is.
I’ll hardly be knocking the doors down by suggesting to go here, but at least having had a first hand experience (finally – my last visit in 2014 was curtailed due to food poisoning from a previous night out) I can say for sure.
