❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of the few mid-range pubby options with a true social scene inhabited by both locals and visitors that isn’t either social climbing or distractingly bland in nature.

Value For Money:
❤️❤️
Higher than typical for France, reflecting Biarritz’s wealth.
Description:
Biarritz and Bayonne are lands of contrast despite only being a few km apart. The latter, a compact Medieval grid layout of timber houses, offering Basque culture and down to earth social culture, the former a mixture of old and new money, set up by and for the wealthy. Their bar scenes certainly reflect that, with Biarritz suffering from a certain blandness to its offerings, unimaginative and following a template of what they think will satisfy the nouveau riche. Most of the alternatives are ex-pat or Irish bars. Consequentially, it can be a frustrating town to find good social hangouts.
La Tireuse was the best effort we found of a pubby bar with superior beer offerings. You can play a game of pool, watch sport and select from 20 beers on tap. Not without room for improvement and not cheap, but certainly a worthy effort and almost certainly where you’ll end up on your trip. Sadly it doesn’t open until 4pm onwards, so good luck until then (just go to Bayonne, it’s a short bus ride). However, it does remain open late most nights.
