Description:
Carouge, the district they don’t tell you about, but Genevans keep to themselves. In easy reach on the tram or bus (and honestly, you could walk it) this low-rise neighbourhood gives a pleasant, friendly and colourful accent to Geneva. Cafes, cinemas and of course bars line the centre of what would formerly have been a self-contained village.
La Plage is one of the more long standing in Carouge, a small compact bar on a street corner, with terrace out front and limited space inside fitting around 30 comfortably. Exposed beams make it a reasonably characterful place and it’s a bar with energy – somewhere to go in the evenings where you can socialise that isn’t trashy or distracting.
There’s a younger audience but a good welcome, and it is one of those cult venues everyone who lives here will tell you about, but you could easily walk straight past if you hadn’t heard of it.
