Description:
Advertising itself as a ‘third place’, La Pente is a small bar and live music venue with an alternative scene and events roster to match. Upcoming acts and fringe performers are to be expected, with costs ranging from fair to low-to-no (donations of course welcome).

An offbeat space with exposed brickwork and old tiling, you’ll find the bar to the left as you enter the main room, opening out into a space for the audience and stagey space to the rear of the room.

It isn’t all about live music and you’ll find the bar lively before and after gigs too, though it is undeniably when the place comes alive.

Drinks are above the usual perfunctory gig venue standards with a nice selection of classic French beer styles and competent back bar.

Set in the famous Croix-Rousse district, with its vertiginous alleys and sweeping views, this is one piece of firm evidence that independent artists and culture hasn’t yet been expunged through gentrification.
