Description:
Jerez is a traditional Andalusian city and as the centre of the sherry trade it is not prime territory for alternative bars. This is not Berlin, and nor will you find many places like that. However, Jerez does cover a range of bases, if thinly, and La Libreria is its central alternative bar.

Set in an alleyway, you’ll find a graffiti strewn interior with table football and a games machine, along with bookshelves and board games.

A rock soundtrack and young audience, but it’s reasonably airy and not a sweaty basement or anything.

8pm-2am daily isn’t as extreme as some alternative bars you’d find in Valencia or Santiago but sets out its stall and provides a permanent ‘last one before home’ option.

Drinks are reasonably basic though not dreadful – Alhambra and Paulaner does the job well enough – cheap shots of course pull in a certain crowd and don’t expect tapas here.

La Libreria is an important lynchpin in Jerez’s limited after hours scene.
