Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A very good standard of cocktails with a broad, near comprehensive back bar for alternatives. Some wines/beer available too.

Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A former patisserie, the name references in the venues title, the interior is a blend of preserved interior features dating back to the 1910s and recovered signage which has been carefully fitted in the 1990s and again in the mid 2010s so as to blend sympathetically with the ensemble. A wide bar with fittings and ornate framing, with open windows and a terrace leading street side. Around the side of the bar is a long, loungey backroom with a hint of gentleman’s study about it. Somewhat familiar but well executed and superior.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
There is always a sprinkling of stardust about a venue with preserved fittings and the natural character does a lot of heavy lifting here. Simply being in or around the bar feels like partaking in a time-honoured ritual. The energy increases as evening approached, before which there is a more café bar feel to it. The table service adds a little bit of an unnecessary formality, although some will enjoy the special treatment.

Value For Money❤️❤️❤️
Considering the history, the location and the popularity, there are some entirely reasonably priced drinks on offer, while you can also splurge if you wish to.
DescriptionOne of Barcelona’s special places, a historic building with use dating back even before the 1900s patisserie which this cocktail operation is named after and who inherited many of its fine fixtures and fittings.

What meets the eye isn’t all original though, but a carefully curated ensemble of original fittings and recovered items which date from around the era it was constructed. A wide bar off a terrace instantly makes a good impression with its beautiful carved wood, after which you will be shown to a table.

A compact menu of their house cocktails will help focus your mind, each of which produced with a satisfactory degree of élan without going over the top.

The service does make this place more formal than usual for Spain, but among the bar space itself the atmosphere is chatty rather than private. The energy and thus the conviviality increases as evening progresses, turning a café atmosphere into a late bar.

Along with the cocktails, their kitchen produces some interesting stuff.

Highly recommended. (May 2024)
