Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rum specialists with a large collection, and a few very well kept beers too.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Log cabin type exterior hints at something rustic inside. Instead, while intimate, it’s a bit more casual and less cro-magnon. Chunky tables, but otherwise a fairly civilised interior.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Homely and intimate, but mainly casual, almost like being invited into someone’s house from the back door. A mixture of villagers, holidayers and day-trippers. Lively garden in summer.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, outdoor seating, TV, ice cream, rooms.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Prices are a little higher than some of the other pubs around the region but nothing scary for anyone who usually visits Prague, Brno etc.
Description:
A beautiful lakeside village is the setting for this compact pub that seems sizeable and appropriately rustic as you approach, but is actually pretty small inside.
The upside is, it’s homely and intimate, almost like being invited into someone’s house from the back door.
The garden feels similar, like being on someone’s yard rather than a bespoke pub.
You’re close to nature here, with the lakes offering – reputedly – the cleanest water in the country, and even sat inside it feels like you’re ensconced in something you can’t get unless you’re this far into the middle of nowhere.
Service is friendly and willing and an unknown face will not be met with surprise or hostility. They’re used to holidayers and day-trippers, even though this feels very much like a community operation.
Inside the pub you’ll find chunky tables, TVs usually showing whatever sport is on, but easy enough to tune out of if that’s not your thing.
The operation are rum specialists which seems to be a personal quirk. You’ll find 30+ bottles dotted around the bar and entrance. Notable enough anywhere in the Czech countryside and better than a lot of average pubs in cities too.
Prices are a little higher than some of the other pubs around the region but nothing scary for anyone who usually visits Prague, Brno etc.
As for meals, it is very much a casual hangout that does food rather than a foodie pub.
With a bus connection between here and Kadov, it is possible to link up a few pubs before working your way back to civilisation, but maybe you’d like to stay in the village to in order to enjoy the lake swimming and any number of other nearby outdoors activities.
