Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beer specialists, at least 10 taps of high quality Danish and pan-European beers with a good can/bottle selection. Competent back bar of alternatives makes this more of an all-rounder than other craft bars in the city.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Light-brown ale house furnishings with more of an all-rounder café bar feel than the arch-hipster craft bar format normally applied. Similar to a suburban or small town English ale house with one main difference – the Hungarian owner has decorated it with clippings and ephemera from Hungary.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Candlelit which is always pleasant, a warm and enjoyable environment even when quiet, chatty and convivial when full.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️
Snacks, board games, events.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️
Not cheap by any means but perhaps slightly, slightly more amenable than some of the most high end craft beer bars.
Description:
With the Danish craft beer scene focusing on famous names like Fermentoren, Warpigs, and Soernes, this bar somehow drops off the discussion.
Out in Østerbro, but perfectly easy to reach, this beer specialists set on a busy junction is more interested in an unflashy, low-key ale house/café bar scenario than anything arch-hipster or cookie-cutter.
Anyone who has visited a suburban or small town ale house in England will immediately recognise the similarities here. Candlelit interior furnished with light brown wooden tables and decorated rather distinctively with ephemera relating to the bars Hungarian owner – something we had to ask about given the absence of clues!
Due to the nature of the pub this appeals to a wider audience than the typical craft beer bar such as those listed above, which is to its credit, and is considerably less pretentious or convinced of their own greatness as a result.
The beer selection is strong with 10 taps concentrating on Danish craft but with some well-chosen pan-European options. Well worth considering above the famous ones you’ll read mentioned.
Once chosen, immerse yourself in a cosy environment with friends, play a few board games or soak up the atmosphere of conviviality.
