Choice/ Quality of Drinks	❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Estonian craft beer with some other European options supplemented by an adjoining bottleshop. As far as beer goes, very strong. Basic back bar for alternatives and café style options.
Style/ Décor	❤️❤️❤️❤️ Tucked in a courtyard, a sign outside cryptically suggests it’s open when it’s open and closed when it’s closed. Enter to find a small vaulted room with fireplace and lounge style furniture. The curved ceilings decorated with bank notes around the world, and there’s a fish tank on a ledge.
Atmosphere/ Character	❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Supremely cosy in the winter months with the fire going in the intimate vaulted space. Set down with a nice beer and company, you will not want to leave.
Amenities/ Events	❤️❤️❤️ Pizza (only some nights), bottle shop, fireplace, books, board games, occasional events, limited outdoor seating in summer.
Value For Money	❤️❤️❤️ Surprisingly fair value given the central location. While not cheap by Eastern European standards it certainly competes with local ones.
Description	Plainly called “Koht”, or ‘place’ in Estonian, but also known as Golden Lion (after the building) or Moonshine Bar, you’ll need to head into a courtyard to spot the door to the corner of the place. It’s hardly a hidden bar, but those easily confused may need some reassurance that yes, that black door is the entrance to the bar. Inside you’ll find a small space inside old vaults with a real fire in the corner, fish tank on a ledge and comfortable lounge seating. In winter (6 months a year in Tallinn) it’s a supremely cosy spot with limited seating, but we found no difficulty on any of the 3 occasions finding a spot to sit. The beer selection is excellent with 8 or so taps covering local beer to European classics, with an adjoining bottle shop which expands the range further. There is no doubt this occupies the vast majority of the purpose of the bar, but there are alternatives and the bar retains a slight hint of café to it as a result. Simply an unmissable stop off when in the city. (Added November 2023)
