| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️ Very basic options from Brand, with a well-used back bar for liqueurs. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A small one room bar with front room and narrow side area, with the bar itself in the centre. Red paint, wood strip and a fun Snail diagram on the wall. However you’ll largely only notice the throng of human heads. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Your dream, your nightmare or a quirky change of speed. This is a singing café, which over here means pack yourself in as tightly as possible, get sipping and munching (mind your elbows) and party. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️ Snacks, limited outdoor space. |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️ Typical central Maastricht prices. |
| Description | In the 37 square metres that encompass this pub, many tales have been told of the nights out here, singing oneself hoarse, drinking oneself senseless, and more besides. The Burgundy Snail is duly painted in rich red, with its diagram taking up the wall space adjacent to the bar, in case you needed to know what the name meant. A famous, award-winning historic venue with a line in bustling singalongs and a lack of personal space usually reserved for popular tapas bars in Seville. Yes, if you dislike either of those, I would steer clear. For the rest however, it is worth joining the throng for an atmosphere entirely unlike you’ll find somewhere like England, either because you’re into that, or because the novelty value is sky high. Sip on little beers and munch on plates of Dutch tapas (beige buffet) trying not to clatter into people as the surge of song and good cheer rides through the pub like a wave. Apparently there are quieter times too? Well, who’d have thunk it! (Added June 2024) |
