Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️
Deliberately spartan range of unmarked goods, which includes their own frothy beer – light or dark, with wines and liqueurs also available.

Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Situated in the medieval era town hall, this surprisingly small venue is comprised of two rooms with stone walls, stone floors, chunky tables and candles. Although Medieval-themed, this is very much on the minimalist ‘Inn’ concept rather than any faux heraldry or big budget idea.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Leaning heavily into a rustic centuries-old concept of a Medieval inn rather than an enormous banqueting hall most go for. Instead of that formality, you order and receive food and drink at the bar and place your empties in a basket. The two rooms are truly befitting of the concept – cosy, rustic, satisfyingly cro-magnon and informal.

Slightly higher than average but fair given the most central of central locations.
DescriptionAn admittedly love or hate venue – we loved it, those who are averse to Medieval style venues had best look elsewhere. However, we may be able to keep you hooked with the promise that this is not your average Medieval themed restaurant with huge dining halls, faux heraldry and impossible platters of meat. Instead, you’ll find a surprisingly small, simply middle ages inn, two stone-walled, candlelit rooms with simple seating and a simple concept. Two women staff the bar and kitchen, one serving drinks and food, the other cooking. You order and collect direct from them, then take your wares to a table of your choice. The interior is suitably gloomy and almost hysterically rustic and cro-magnon in its approach. Food orders are spartan – Elk broth, sausages with gherkin you fish out of an upturned barrel, and ribs – that’s more or less it – you can buy carrot and other veg separately. The beer comes in two options – light or dark and the price is described always as “moneys” rather than Euros. There are some unfortunately unavoidably cheesy/tourist elements but the core of the experience remains sound – candles, beer, stone, wood, warmth and cheer. (Added November 2023)
