| Description | In a land where big brewers still rule the roost in terms of pub supply, it is always nice to find a corner local with a strong selection by corner brewers. Malý Růžek isn’t only a connoisseurs choice, but a regular pub with a nice range of people old and young. With at least 8 taps and prices that range from decent to really very impressive for what’s available, there is plenty to get stuck into here. The welcome is friendly too, none of that initial narrowing of eyes and scrutinising. It is a nice reminder this is a university city and has some cosmopolitan attitudes. The pub itself has limited outdoor seating and a small space indoors too, with a small bar room and smaller backroom, which is out of the sight of the rest of the pub and qualifies as an overflow area – ideally head for a table near the taps. Decorated with notables from Czech history past and present, which helps it past the plain/bland stage, which sadly is where a lot of places like these decide to pitch their tents. For an experience of strong local life and to savour fabulous beers, this comes highly recommended. (Added October 2024) |
