Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️ Hostan, South Moravian folk classic (now just a brand) and a limited array of Czech spirits. |
Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A time-stood-still Hostinec with wood strip panels, dusty interior and relics decorating the wall. A large long table facing the bar hosts most of the socialising. Dartboard at the back of the pub. |
Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A true locals pub where you can expect to find a few raised eyebrows, though not necessarily any hostility if you enter armed with some polite phrases. It is local gossip town with banter between friends, or long term acquaintances at least. Atmosphere is of its own, a certain genius loci in the battered, surviving surrounding. |
Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️ Dartboard, snacks, basic meals, limited outdoor space |
Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Good value with the beer easily 10 crowns less than most of the venues in the centre. |
Description | A preserved out of time Hostinec with almost dream-like wooziness to the atmosphere inside, like entering into a saloon, with a hint of trepidation given the core of local life that call it home. However, you shouldn’t expect too much hostility – you’ll find a kindly hostess and generally tolerant crowd that will get on with their own business rather than hassle you. A true piece of social history that’s authentic – unlike the Hostan beer now brewed by Starobrno, but hey, you’ll find it here at a very low price, almost half the rate for a Pilsner Urquell in Prague. For the adventurous who want a slice of authenticity with their Czech pubgoing. Not for those who want a safe time in a sterile venue, nor beer experts. (Added August 2022) |
