Venue Type:  Station Pub / Village Pub / Roadside Pub / Beer Specialists

EBG Rating: 8.5/10

Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
4/5 Dalešice beers on tap including seasonal specials represents an absolute treat. A simple selection of alternatives but with some grocery store type options for those passing.

Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A one-off that appears to have been a 1930s era signal box and station house situated directly by the train tracks and level crossing. Light cream painted wood-strip building with retro signage twinned with Dalešice’s emblems. Inside, a historic interior decorated with train station ephemera and old maps. The taps are to the left of the entrance and there is a shop and stand for snacks, while seating around a steam heater is in the middle of a pub, leading to a rear room with conservatory type windows and a view of the tracks.

Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Quirky train station locale adds character even when quiet, although it’s usually fairly popular. Loungey, chatty terrace atmosphere in the summer with a completely different feel in winter in a steamed up pub.

Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, books, outdoor seating, playground, shop, train station.

Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Not the cheapest in the area, all things considered, especially for food, but quality corresponds to price.

Description:
Among Czechia’s finest station pubs (with considerable competition), Vechtrovna is not the palatial Art Nouveau splendour of Prague main station nor an endearing socialist relic, but a good example of the diversity of this format. You’ll find a pleasant, humble looking cream coloured wood-strip station house for a minor station in an outlying village from Brno.

I say ‘in’, like many Czech stations you’ll have the obligatory 25 minutes walk from the station if you wish to go to Troubsko itself.

Still, you won’t be going to Troubsko, instead you’ll be taking advantage of a 10 minute journey from Brno main station along the suburban rail line to this fantastic pub.

Dalešice beer is all the rage as of 2025, something which has gradually crept up in the last decade. A brewery based 20 miles west of Brno that is muscling in, along with the likes of Kamenice and Mazak, on the beer scene which in Brno’s case is increasingly deviating from the clutches of the main Czech brands.

Dalešice own a few pubs around the area, and here you’ll find 4/5 of their beers on tap including seasonal specials. They serve food but also chlebíčky, open-faced small sandwiches to wash down the beers which work a treat.

The station building is naturally charming, clearly having not originally existed for this purpose, and the pub is decorated with what appear to be 30s/40s era signage and maps.

The courtyard is handsome with a view of the level crossing and passing trains and there is some cover with parasols and mature trees.

For whatever reason, even some city dwellers are yet to find Vechtrovna despite the door-to-door journey being less than visits to some more fashionable outfits in Brno. However, their loss is our gain.

Cyclists, train enthusiasts and a few city types join the villagers and are this pubs adherents.

We can only implore you to give it a try.
