Description:
Slovenian country comforts at their finest.
The “Gostilna” is a formally Government-protected part of Slovenian national heritage. These Inns and staging posts have provided rest, sustenance and good cheer for centuries.
As with all country pubs the format and emphasis changes from place to place. Others are more unguardedly restaurants, many larger Gostilnas offer musical performances and dances.
Pri Planincu, dating from 1903 offers hearty country cooking, perfect after a long day’s hiking aroung Lake Bled or further over into the Julian Alps.
They have their pleasant homely dining rooms to the right of the entrance. Crucially though, and unlike some, they also have a straight up bar room and pub.
Decorated with donated license plates from around the world (but especially US states) it is a sudden injection of pubbiness and informality. You can suddenly chat at the bar or share space with strangers and talk about each others travels and more.
On tap they’ve introduced a Slovenian IPA alongside the typical lagers. To call this a fixture would be underselling it: it’s nothing short of iconic in the land of Slovenia.
