A small venue with an extremely characterful frontage, climbing ivy up 4 storeys with a window in the foliage on each floor. There’s a patio terrace with a bigger capacity than the small interior which is decorated in a simple DIY, almost micro-pub type feel.

Atmosphere/Character:

Social, unpretentious and local, as well as very popular. You’ll find a crowd of mid-twenties to mid-forties here. It has its alternative side but nothing overly provocative, unless you count the state of the toilets.

Description:
Another welcome break from touristy bars, Ganz manages to be both very central and feel very neighbourly. The people around you feel like regulars and friends rather than disparate groups of fly by night tourists. A very good rotating selection of Hungarian craft beer and Czech lagers is the bar’s big pull, along with the ivy-clad exterior and terrace next door to one of Budapest’s famous thermal spas. District VII is still great but bars like Ganz offer a slice of something different. Low key local life and pubgoing with simple virtues without pretension. (Added June 2022)
