Year of Inscription: 2024
EBG Rating: 8/10
Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️
Basic beers but a large back bar offers a wealth of alternatives.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Upstairs/downstairs. Upstairs you’ll find a café bar that seems like it has crackled a little over time, while downstairs down a spiral staircase turns into a Berlin style punk hangout with graffiti strewn walls, pool & football tables.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very atmospheric up or down, as Floss’ late openings mean it is often the last port of call for those drinking in the city centre. A younger audience and smokey surroundings. Service is gruff, tolerant at best to newcomers.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Snacks, happy hour, pool, table football
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
City centre prices but some reasonable happy hour deals and nothing too offensive.
Description:
Part charmingly faded café, part punk-rock basement hangout, Floss is not shrinking violet as a glance at the frontage will confirm. Often ‘the last call before home’, late opening means happy hour here is 10pm rather than 5 in the afternoon like other pubs.
With gruff service in front of a wall of old liqueurs and cocktail stock, basis beers and battered old furniture, this is a city stalwart and the memories linger around you, as will the fug of cigarette smoke.
Downstairs it’s even more deconstructed with furniture that skips would reject for being in too poor condition and games for the clientele.
It’s an essential stop off for the alternative scene in the centre that can’t be missed, but turn up after 11pm to see it at its best.
