| Description | A superior versatile café bar that proves such a venue can be a beer and wine lovers venue all in one, a chatty gossip mill, a cosy lounge, a night spot, a drinking hole all at once without feeling bland or concessionary. As you approach you’ll note the somewhat territorial pavement dwellers doing some pretty intense people watching, but it becomes instantly relaxed and convivial once you take your seat inside. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is European, that is to say, Basel being on the corner of 3 countries makes it very international in flavour. With music, board games, bistro style food and enough space to accommodate all these different needs, it is time to appreciate the deft way this venue pulls all these things together, particularly in an age when business ideas are so ruthlessly discriminatory towards specific audiences. Yes, this is located in Klein-Basel, the Clara district which is a younger, less staid area of the city centre, and Flore is at the apex of the post-grad social scene onwards. It is great to discover a bar versatile and yet personal that ticks so much for so many. Be warned though: CASH ONLY. |
