Description

A traditional and characterful market town style pub with a sliding door into a snug bar room, pewter jugs hanging from the beams. Outhouse toilets and an all-round slice of old England, without the chintz and touristy fuss. A few cask ales make up a predictable drinks selection. Historic background and even up until the present there has been local colour, a pub which used to have bars on the windows on account of serving local prison officers. Nothing of that sort to be found in this genteel boozer today that is a picture of unfussy, traditional socialising. Longstanding owner Jackie rules the roost in a way similar to Michael Webster at the Victoria pub nearby.
