Location: Dzirnavu iela 82, Rīga
Venue Type: Late Bar / Alternative
Year of Inscription: 2026
EBG Rating: 7.8/10
Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Attention paid to both the back bar, a compact and savvy tap selection of beers and fridge full of Bavarian beers, some of which certainly belong in the upper echelons in their style, others are simply surprising or superior.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Enter a courtyard rather than the typical townhouse street front, as though the building was constructed 30 metres away from the pavement by accident. This is a social gathering area itself and you will already see groups gathering around the tables outside.
Inside two rooms, a spacious bar room with standing area and a reflective ceiling of mirror strips. A rear lounge which is effectively an open space filled with tables and chairs. Antique/mismatched recovered furnishings and strategically placed lamp lighting.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
An electronic music soundtrack is complimentary with the surroundings and there’s a good tempo to the place and a style to it, without it feeling particularly see-and-be-seen or pretentious.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️
Outdoor seating, snacks, Live music
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Typical value for this sort of bar in this area of the city.
Description:
The successor to the popular off-beat bar “Chomsky”, RIP is a strong evening all-rounder, blending a well-kitted out bar, alternative-to-mainstream feeling environment and a lively atmosphere that you can easily get chatting to new people in.
An interesting approach to the building for Riga means you enter a courtyard rather than the typical townhouse street front, as though the building was constructed 30 metres away from the pavement by accident. This is a social gathering area itself and you will already see groups gathering around the tables outside.
Inside two rooms, a spacious bar room with standing area and a reflective ceiling of mirror strips. A rear lounge which is effectively an open space filled with tables and chairs. However, antique/mismatched recovered furnishings and strategically placed lamp lighting give it a homely feel.
Drinks selection is impressive, with attention paid to both the back bar, a compact and savvy tap selection of beers and fridge full of Bavarian beers, some of which certainly belong in the upper echelons in their style, others are simply surprising or superior.
Opening late all nights except Sunday, it’s one of those versatile and convenient venues that proves the answer to ‘Where next?’ so many times.
An electronic music soundtrack is complimentary with the surroundings and there’s a good tempo to the place and a style to it, without it feeling particularly see-and-be-seen or pretentious.
Certainly one of Riga’s best bar options currently.
