| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️ A versatile, broad range of drinks lacking true quality in the beer department, but a well-stocked back bar. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ The owner is apparently an enthusiast of Spanish filmmaking and an art collector, with the bar reflecting those tastes. Old time retro furnishings in warmly lit space across several rooms of exposed sandstone brick walls. A long bar without focal point joins those together, with further room on the terrace, a shell-shaped square with historic links to the old Moorish defensive walls. Neon-signage out-front. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A truly atmospheric venue, particularly early evenings onwards. Somewhat suave and upright with table service, but there is a casual bohemian and friendly nature to it as well. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️ Food, snacks, outdoor seating, occasional events. |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️ City centre prices, but not extortionate. |
| Description | Opened in 1992 in the heart of Valencia’s old centre, you’ll find this café on a square that used to be the site of the Moorish defensive walls to the city. Unlike many Spanish bars, the exuberance on the street extends to a wonderfully atmospheric interior sprawling across several rooms. While the position of the bar means it someone lacks a focal point, this is ably compensated by the decoration and atmosphere in the rooms adjacent, offering a bohemian, old-time yet still relevant feeling of ease and timelessness. A touristic venue, admittedly, and there are obviously things which accompany that, but it isn’t so bad, honestly. With a broad and versatile menu and different spaces to enjoy socialising, food and soaking up the atmosphere, it really is a must visit for a first timer to Valencia. (Added July 2024) |
