Description:
Carouge, the district they don’t tell you about, but Genevans keep to themselves. In easy reach on the tram or bus (and honestly, you could walk it) this low-rise neighbourhood gives a pleasant, friendly and colourful accent to Geneva. Cafes, cinemas and of course bars line the centre of what would formerly have been a self-contained village.

No bar here sums up the area more than Café du Cinema. Demure but beautiful, soave without really trying to be, modest despite having plenty to boast about.

A pubby feeling cafe bar with two rooms, each wood panelled with local art on the walls, the mood is set the moment you walk in. It’s a place you could be content in on calm afternoons, social evenings or unwinding in. Alone, with a partner, with friends, it will work for all.

Service is friendly, as are the clientele, welcoming in dog owners (not always a given in Switzerland) and offerings cards and board games. The Swiss are equally keen on this as the French.

Beers are provided by Swiss brewery La Nebuleuse, with a compact but superior range covering typical styles.

While there is much to be complimentary about, it feels like the venue is just perhaps one hook or USP away from fulfilling its potential, but until then it remains a clear recommendation.

Warning: Be sure to check the address and go to the correct Café Du Cinema in Carouge, don’t let Google send you elsewhere.
