Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Haacht dominated taps, but there are plenty of them, with a good range of styles to choose from, with classic lowlands Pilsner from Leew, to Belgian ales, to IPAs. Competent back bar.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Typical Dutch brown café with some faint Parisien and seafaring leanings to the many artworks fastened to the walls. A small establishment with a terrace on summer days, the main room offers a small selection of tables in a traditional, but bordering on cosmopolitan setting.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Social, friendly and relevant during the day, and calmer too. The evening picks up the pace but this is still not one for a trashy night out, more one for a drink and a chat as afternoon slides into evening.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, outdoor seating, music, games, live music
Value For Money❤️❤️
Typical city centre Dutch pricing.
DescriptionSet in the Jerkerkwartier, a more quiet and leafy part of Maastricht, the afternoon ambience in De Pieter is a blend of French-influence with classical Dutch brown café atmosphere. As chanson plays in the background and you gaze at the Parisien scenes on the wall, you feel oddly completely at ease yet unmoored. A quick survey of the wider scene will anchor you. A small bar with gregarious bartenders and plenty of beer taps (albeit mainly Haacht) churning out the good – and not so good- stuff to all and sundry. Order a vaasje or fluitje of Leew as a classic, or chance your arm at one of the Belgian beers or Dutch IPAs available. A busy social hub with a touch of class, something Maastricht distinctly lacks despite all its money, as any attendees at Carnival will attest to. A superior, understated option to enjoy.
