Choice/
Quality of Drinks
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Central European style lagers fresh, unfiltered and unpasteurised from their brewery tanks. Usual selection of back bar offerings.
Style/
Décor
⭐⭐⭐
Reasonably pubby with a modest layout that isn’t overly cavernous and allows for niches and creates a fairly intimate welcoming space. Rustic decor and hints at the city’s history.
Atmosphere/
Character
⭐⭐⭐
Typical of a central brewery institution, but with a certain modesty in terms of size that makes it feel more like a pub at times too.
Amenities/
Events
⭐⭐⭐
Brewery, meals, TV
Value For Money
⭐⭐⭐
A little higher for the area, some servings are smaller than the standard too.
Description
Often the problem with city centre brewpubs is, well, the lack of pubbiness. Transient trade, large rooms, constant cooking smells. Not the case here. This one has a nice modest layout that feels very much like a pub, with the TV screen in the corner and niches to sit at. The brewkit is visible and the offerings are decent. While they won’t change the world they will help it go round. Central European staples which hit the spot with reasonable accuracy and the typical selection of food to go with it. A solid choice for an afternoon pint and a read even if you don’t want to eat. No doubt on certain evenings it gets going from a pub perspective too.
