Description:
A curiosity, not set in a very pubby part of town, but easy to reach on public transport. Børges opens only 3-8pm daily, hours not traditionally known for hordes of customers, indeed it was quiet on our visit. Unlike the typical bodega there is no smoking permitted inside the pub here, giving it a fresher atmosphere. However, it is no less cosy, really a beautiful pub, dimly lit with jazz instruments attached to walls and ceilings. The instruments are an indicator of live music which happens occasionally, while the soundtrack also spins through jazz and blues. The owner is clearly doing this out of love, making the place more endearing as well. Fair prices are assured, albeit for a fairly unexciting roster of drinks. This is certainly worth carving some time in your diary to visit. (Added November 2024)
