| Choice /Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Last-gen options, but we can still be glad of them, with wheatbeer on tap and some good Belgian bottles in the fridge. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Eclectic ornaments in a two storey pub that manages to escape the trappings of Irish pub décor while still feeling distinctly pubby. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ The surroundings help create an informality and pub atmosphere similar to England, with different groups and backgrounds mixing together. Lively, buzzy and noisy at times. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Food, snacks, TV, live events, limited outdoor space |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️ Neither overpriced nor particularly cheap. |
| Description | Among true ‘all rounders’ on our guide, Bonaparte Foz, as well as its central Porto sister pub ‘Bonaparte Downtown’ have pitched the offering on a narrow overlap of complimentary interests. Yes, beer specialists are covered here by a few items in the bottle range, while those interested in the interior will note the venue manages to subtly remain eclectic and pubby without falling intro Irish pub tropes or derivative ideas. The atmosphere is collegiate – you’ll be as likely to find excitable groups of young women as you will middle aged businessmen, as you will young couples, giving it a similar atmosphere to a superior English pub overall. This is all achieved while offering food, sport on TV, occasional live music and views of the Atlantic from the top floor. Kudos. (Added September 2023) |
