Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️
You’ve heard this already by now, right? A staple of Antwerp classics on tap with only a little rotation now and then, backed up by traditional Belgian classics.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Three layers here, firstly the terrace, then a covered terrace, then finally the bar itself, which is merely a dinky little brown café with tiled floor, ancient beams and lots of very satisfactory pleasant aged wood.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A little more everyday than the tourist spots in the centre, so that means more music, more telly and more back bar griping from the staff and so forth. Not that this spoils it exactly, but anyone hoping for a puritanical worship of wood and beer in the calm may find that sanctity is shattered by surrounding events. It’s social, it’s relevant and it has an identity. Service is to the point, but quick.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Outdoor seating, light meals and snacks, TV, jukebox, occasional events.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Nothing to cause even the flicker of an eye in either direction.
Description:
While there are some gripes about service, those are context specific and can be disregarded. If you are coming for a drink and sit in the pub itself, there’s much to enjoy, from the tiled floor, beautifully aged wood and personalised interior, to the selection of classic Antwerp beers and local life and rhythm to be found. While it won’t hit the heights of others, it will link together a bar crawl well, while providing visual interest and a certain consistency. (Added July 2022)
