| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ One of only 7 Robinsons tied pubs that allows guest ales, all to the betterment of the pub. Old Tom a regular fixture on cask, extremely unusual given this is an 8.5% old ale. Perfunctory alternatives. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A venue of national importance on CAMRA’s inventory of heritage interiors. 1898 build inspired by the arts and crafts movement with one of the few remaining curved glazed ceramic tile bars in the country. Intricate mosaic floor, etched glass, call bells, surviving fireplaces. A small bar with two little snug lounges and a booth inset at the far side of the bar. Stylish and impressively preserved. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Excellent atmosphere naturally produced by the surroundings but also, on account of its central location, regular custom, local life in situ. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Snacks, books, function room, jukebox, real fires |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️ Normal prices, not much above the going rate. |
| Description | A pub of national importance on account of its preserved interior, this former hotel was created in 1898 and has kept its snug lounge rooms, inset booth, mosaic tiled floor and curved ceramic bar, along with a host of other small features like the call bells and etched glass signage, that has a wow factor most pubs cannot match. Robinsons tied, which would normally be a byword for grey paint, anodyne interior design and a boring closed shop of drinks options, but this is one of only 7 in their stable that allows guest ales, and of course they have chosen not to spoil the interior design of this Grade II listed building. A wonderful, standout pub that, if you enjoy such things, is worth a visit to Preston for alone. (Added May 2023) |
