Location: Via Adelchi, 5, 20131 Milano MI, Italy
Year of Inscription: 2025
Venue Type: Craft Beer Bar / Tavern / Traditional
EBG Rating: 8.7/10
Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Strong range of its own beers, 10+ keg lines with a few guest taps, including a cask line. Their beers are unfiltered and unpasteurised. Perfunctory alternatives.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dark wood, and muted lighting calculated to accent certain spots around the bar, which is very effective. A small venue with booth opposite the bar, and upturned barrels for leaning posts. Traditional L-shaped dive bar to the right of the entrance.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Superb atmosphere with a healthy mixture of locals and visitors, no-one crowding anyone out. Casual and social, somewhere to let your hair down. In many ways different from modern brewery taprooms and better for it. Typical rock music soundtrack. Activity usually spills out onto the street.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️
Meat + cheese platters, limited outdoor space
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Pretty standard for a major city centre and nothing too shocking.
Description:
Taproom for Lambrate brewery, one of two serving the brewing operation based east of here by the Lambro river.
Small, compact and extremely pubby, Lambrate offers a strong range of its own beers, with a few guest taps, including a cask line. Their beers are unfiltered and unpasteurised which is possible due to the freshness of the output and the eagerness of locals and visitors to lap them up.
Those with historic preconceptions of Italian pubs and Italian beer have been jolted into the modern reality by a venue which has seen itself morph from cutting edge outlier to established fixture over the past decades as Italian brewing and beer loving accelerated after the turn of the Millennium.
Darkly lit and traditional with booths and high chairs around upturned barrels, with a classic dive -style bar area, it is a pub that wants to be a pub for its own sake, which is brilliant! How many taprooms have you been to with striplighting and zero imagination, content for the venue to be nothing but a roll of wallpaper? Well this place would be on our guide even if they had 1 beer on tap. The fact it is also a specialist beer outlet merely propels it into being one of the best in Europe.
Lambrate has another bar, ‘Golgi’ south of here, also worth a look for the drinks offer, less so for the venue itself.
