| Description | One variety of bar that deserves respect is one that, in its own way, is a glittering example of a very specific thing. With opening hours of 7am-8pm, this should give you some indication of what’s in store. A tiny bar rammed with local men who proceed to play darts, shoot the breeze and bellow banter back and forward – this is all friendly enough, but you may find it near impossible to cleave a space for yourself inside. The service, by contrast, is a joy with friendly and jovial service both from the younger and older women (her mum) who rule over the place. This is only for those of a hearty constitution or a few drinks under their belt to have lost the filter that signals, very strongly, do not go in here. Why is it on the guide? Simply because you will not find a better example of such a bar in the city or region. A living, breathing (for now) ethnographic museum. (Added June 2023) |
